Advantage of Death

Advantage of Death

I made this sculpture this summer in Wyoming. The idea came to me while on a run one day, thinking about all the history in old fence posts. One of our fence lines recently had to be re-fenced and I was gathering up all these old knarled fence posts, wondering about how old they were and where they came from originally. I used some of the straighter ones for this piece and have some other ideas for the more knarled and twisted cedar posts. The cow skull is from one of our old cows and has been hanging on the porch for years. The wings are made out of fencing wire and cut strips of old burlap feedbags. Photograph prints available in a custom frame.
